Suddenly, the frequently-wrong World Health Organization, responsible for covering up China’s involvement when the Wuhan coronavirus first broke out, has reversed track on what precautions countries should take in response to the pandemic.
It’s difficult to trust the WHO at this point after they have risked the world’s health in the interest of saving face for China, and have flip-flopped on countless aspects of the coronavirus response. However, their latest change is something I completely support.
Citing “economy” concerns, one leader of the WHO says that perhaps draconian lockdowns were not the best course of action after all after seven months of shutdowns in the U.S. and around the world.
During an interview released on Thursday with The Spectator, WHO special envoy David Nabarro said, “We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus.”
Interestingly enough, the WHO’s announcement comes just a couple months after the US, their biggest donor, withdrew funding from the organization for suspiciously covering up for China.
The president celebrated the news during his first rally since recovering from the coronavirus.
“The World Health Organization, did you see what happened? They came out a little while ago and they admitted that Donald Trump was right,” he celebrated.
“The lockdowns are doing tremendous damage to these Democrat-run states where they are locked down, sealed up. Suicide rates, drug rates, alcoholism, death by so many different forms. You can’t do that,” Trump said.
The WHO’s latest change directly contradicts their previous guidelines, in which they said lockdowns were recommended and warned countries against reopening efforts.
“The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it,” Nabarro explained.
Anyone else remember “15 days to slow the spread”?
Those first two weeks were intended to accomplish exactly what the WHO just explained: “to reorganize, regroup, rebalance” resources and protect “health workers who are exhausted,” Nabarro said.
Well, as it turns out, our hospitals were never overwhelmed, except perhaps for a very brief time in New York state. They eventually sent back the hospital ships USS Mercy and USS Comfort because they simply did not need them.
The Trump administration transitioned our economy to a wartime effort of manufacturing medical supplies, PPE, and ventilators. Our top medical experts and pharmaceutical companies worked to make therapeutics available to all Americans in need.
Nevertheless, it has now been almost exactly seven months since the original “15 days” to slow the spread and gather necessary resources.
Every state got what they needed from the Trump administration to handle the virus in their respective states and cities, yet we still have not reopened. Many states are still subject to tyrannical lockdown measures despite the lack of any sound reasoning behind it.
Most importantly, Nabarro also argued, “Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never, ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer,” he said.
This is what conservatives in America have been saying for months, yet were censored online and ostracized for believing it.
First of all, the science behind the effectiveness of lockdowns is faulty. Secondly, we achieved the goal of lockdowns (months ago) that Nabarro specified. Thirdly, Americans must be allowed to maintain their constitutional right to liberty in maintaining their livelihoods by going to work, keeping their businesses open, and going where they decide – without the government telling them if, when, and how.
What’s the point in being safe, healthy, and protected from a virus that has well above 95% survival rate for even the most vulnerable if you will have no livelihood to return to?
America was founded on the idea of free will. We should have never locked our country down and threatened that freedom. Now, we can only hope that our governments pay attention to the new announcement.
