The attempt by radical Leftists to erase American history continued last night in front of the White House as a mob tried to take down the statue to former president and general Andrew Jackson in historic Lafayette Square.

NBC News reported, “Protesters defaced a statue of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square outside the White House on Monday night as they tried to topple it, according to the Interior Department and media reports.

The Jackson statue remained on its pedestal, according to The Associated Press. Videos posted on social media showed that the protesters had climbed on the statue and tied ropes around it, then tried to pull it off its pedestal, the AP said.”

President Trump has had enough and is taking action to remedy the situation. Trump tweeted, “I have authorized the Federal Government to arrest anyone who vandalizes or destroys any monument, statue or other such Federal property in the U.S. with up to 10 years in prison, per the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation Act, or such other laws that may be pertinent…..”

It’s about time! The mob has been allowed to desecrate public memorials without facing any repercussions to this point. These people need to be punished for breaking the law, plain and simple. Mayors in cities like Seattle and San Francisco need to grow a spine and do their job to protect public property.

So far, they haven’t and that is why President Trump had to step up to do their job for them.

No statue is too sacred for the mob to overturn, and even heroes like Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant have been targeted. A Lincoln statue in Boston that depicts the “Great Emancipator” granting freedom to a slave is apparently offensive because it makes the black person look like he is beholden to the white man. However, what the mob doesn’t understand is that freed slaves were the ones that dedicated that memorial in the first place, commissioning an exact replica of one that already existed in DC.

Similarly, on Friday, protesters in San Francisco toppled the statue of President Grant in Golden Gate Park. Grant, of course, led the Union Army during the Civil War, helping to overturn slavery.

San Francisco police said that approximately 400 people gathered around 8 p.m. to take down the statue, though no arrests were made, according to NBC Bay Area.

Also torn down in the park on Friday were the statues of St. Junipero Serra and Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

These people need to read a history book. If they’d just do some basic historical research, then they would be amazed to discover that Grant fought against the Confederates. In fact, the people who supported slavery weren’t big fans of his, and they’d probably approve of toppling his statue. I can’t even believe I am having to state this obvious fact. Sadly, this is what you get when students aren’t properly taught American history and kids go away to Leftist indoctrination camps for college.

Gen. Grant helped deliver a better life for African Americans, and it continued into his presidency, during which the Fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified to extend voting rights to former slaves. Facing opposition in the southern states, Grant deployed the U.S. military to dismantle the Ku Klux Klan and enforce new civil rights laws instituted under his leadership.

It is time that our history is preserved and law and order be restored. President Trump’s latest actions are helping to ensure that that happens.
