One of the biggest myths in politics right now is that President Trump botched the coronavirus response. The Biden campaign has perpetuated this myth and his allies in the media have helped him push it. There is only one problem with this narrative: It’s false. President Trump has done an outstanding job in these unprecedented times, taking historic action to address the pandemic.
It is time for Trump to take back the narrative about his handling of the virus response, and lately, he has been doing just that. The Beltway has been abuzz lately with the news of Bob Woodward’s latest book saying that President Trump downplayed the severity of the coronavirus. The media, in their typical fashion, distorted the meaning of Trump’s statement to Woodward.
Trump was simply trying to avoid mass panic. Look what happened once Americans found out about the severity of the virus. They emptied the shelves of toilet paper and hand sanitizer almost immediately. Imagine if the President had spread fear to the American people with the same narrative the Left used. The results would have been catastrophic.
Last night, during an ABC Townhall, Trump’s comments were taken out of context again when told a questioner that he didn’t downplay the virus, but actually “up-played” the virus. The media claimed he was lying and that he never said this. They are either willfully lying or have blocks of wood for brains because anyone watching that full exchange knows that Trump was referring to the actions he took to combat the virus, not the rhetoric he used.
So, let’s talk about those actions that the President took, shall we? A review of Trump’s coronavirus response paints a completely different picture than that being pained by the media. Here is a list of the actions he took, as posted at WhiteHouse.gov:
- “Took early action to cut off travel from China
- Built the world’s leading testing system from nothing
- Enacted mitigation measures to slow the spread
- Mobilized public and private sectors to secure needed supplies
- Took action to protect vulnerable Americans
- Launched effort to deliver vaccines and therapeutics in record time
- Provided support to workers and businesses
- Paved way for reopening to get America working again
- Surged resources to hot spots as they arose
- Confronted China as the origin of the virus while Democrats and media cowered”
President Trump bailed out Democrat Governors such as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, both of whom now hilariously claim that the response by Trump was a failure, even though he gave them—and every governor in America—all the PPE and support they needed. Trump wasn’t the one who sent seniors back into the nursing homes, resulting in massive deaths in those facilities. That was all Cuomo and Whitmer, and there’s no getting around it.
Trump defied his advisors and the political class when he banned travel to China, and then eventually Europe. In response, Joe Biden called him “xenophobic.” The man can’t win with these people.
The truth is that President Trump did all he could legally at the Federal level to alleviate the crisis. We live in a Federalist system that delegates control to local levels in many instances, including public health. Democrat governors are deflecting the blame onto Trump for their failures in combatting the virus.
President Trump did an excellent job combatting the virus, don’t listen to the media or the Democrats…but I repeat myself.
