President Trump is continuing to destroy the Left’s narrative that he is anti-environment with his latest move to ban offshore drilling off the Atlantic coast. Whether you are conservative or liberal, this is something we can all agree is a step in the right direction for promoting green policies in America.

During a campaign stop in his new home state of Florida, the president signed an order banning offshore oil drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico until June 30, 2032. President Trump made the somewhat controversial announcement while speaking from the recently-restored Jupiter Lighthouse in South Florida.

The ban extends an existing moratorium on oil drilling from Florida’s Gulf Coast to the Atlantic Coast that was set to expire in 2022. The updated ban will also include the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina.

“This protects your beautiful Gulf and your beautiful ocean, and it will for a long time to come,” President Trump said.

The president reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the environment and “ensuring crystal clean air and water” for the American people. Defying the Left’s claims that they are the only ones who can solve America’s pollution problem, he touted his administration’s accomplishment in seeing a “significant drop in air pollution” for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Trump also pledged that he is fully committed to strengthening standards to prevent children from being exposed to lead and copper-tainted drinking water in schools. To do this, he announced his administration has invested more than $38 billion dollars to improve drinking water infrastructure.

In response, Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden condemned Trump’s environmentalist action to temporarily ban oil drilling.

Accusing the president of being a hypocrite, Biden wrote, “Just months ago, Donald Trump was planning to allow oil and gas drilling off the coast of Florida. Now, with 56 days until the election, he conveniently says that he changed his mind. Unbelievable. You don’t have to guess where I stand: I oppose new offshore drilling.”

Although Biden thinks Trump is flip-flopping, Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio is confident that Trump will support his bill that would permanently ban offshore oil drilling off the coast of Florida.

Rubio said in a statement, “In my many conversations with the president and members of his administration, it was clear they were well aware of Florida’s unique and vulnerable coastal character and that most Floridians are opposed to allowing offshore drilling off of the state’s coasts.”

If Trump signs such a bill it could significantly shift the public’s perception of the Republican party from anti-environment elitists, to a green party that gets things done. At that point, there would be nothing to stop your everyday liberal from switching sides to support the politicians who are doing something about the “climate change” issue the Left has hijacked.

Until then, the president’s extension on the moratorium is just another addition to a slew of actions he has taken to protect the environment. This isn’t the first, and it won’t be the last. Trump is truly the “promises made, promises kept” president he says he is and that doesn’t stop when it comes to protecting the earth.
