Former President Donald Trump did not hold back in his scathing statement responding to allegations that General Mark Milley secretly called Chinese military officials, promising to warn them of attacks from Trump.
Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, both Washington Post journalists, made the shocking claim in a book they wrote together titled Peril which also alleges that Milley directed high-ranking officials at the Pentagon at the end of Trump’s term in January to not take any action without his knowledge.
Woodward claims Milley feared at the time that Trump could “go rogue” with military power if he reached a “breaking point.”
Responding to the outrageous claims which have yet to be substantiated, Trump said “If the story of ‘Dumbass’ General Mark Milley…is true, then I would assume he would be tried for TREASON,” he wrote in a statement on Tuesday.
If the claims are true, Trump added “[Mark Milley] would have been dealing with his Chinese counterpart behind the President’s back and telling China that he would be giving them notification ‘of an attack.’ Can’t do that!”
Noting his good relationship with China prior to the coronavirus, Trump told Newsmax’s Sean Spicer on Tuesday that he would never even think of attacking them, nor would he have any inkling of a reason to do so.
Doubling down on this in his statement, Trump reiterated, “For the record, I never even thought of attacking China—and China knows that,” he continued. “The people that fabricated the story are sick and demented, and the people who print it are just as bad. In fact, I’m the only President in decades who didn’t get the U.S. into a war—a well-known fact that is seldom reported.”
Trump also railed against the “weak and ineffective” General’s role in the tragically mishandled U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“Actions should be taken immediately against Milley, and better generals in our Military, of which we have many, should get involved so that another Afghanistan disaster never happens again,” the 45th president added. “Remember, I was the one who took out 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. Milley said it couldn’t be done!”
Gen. Mark Milley has yet to respond to the allegations amid rising calls on him from both the Left and Right to resign immediately. The longer he remains silent on the matter, the worse it looks for him.
