Donald Trump’s debate performance in the second and final debate was, in a word, dominant. Last night, he took the fight directly to Joe Biden and challenged him on many issues, most notably recent evidence unearthed in his son Hunter Biden’s laptop detailing what appears to be evidence of Biden family corruption at best, criminality at worst.

President Trump clearly listens to advice and learns from his own mistakes, regardless of whether he admits it or not. That was evident in Thursday night’s debate, which showed a marked improvement over his performance at the previous event.

The Wall Street Journal reported that “Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law, was imploring friendly media personalities and other allies to level with his father-in-law about the angry and aggressive debate style he had displayed, according to people familiar with the calls. Polls would soon show the performance had cost the president support.”

His performance was much stronger Thursday night, he didn’t interrupt, and gave Biden enough time to verbally hang himself. The more Biden talked, the worse he did.

The exchange that everyone was waiting for happened about 25 minutes into the debate after the candidates clashed over the pandemic response in the first portion of the night. The Biden family corruption then took center stage, and Trump used the occasion to land a devastating right hook to Biden’s chin.

Here was the exchange:

Biden: “There’s a reason why he’s bringing all this malarkey, there’s a reason. He doesn’t want to talk about substantive issues. It’s not about his family or my family, it’s about your family and your family is hurting badly.”

“You’re sitting at the kitchen table this morning deciding, well, we can’t get new tires, they’re bald…Or are we going to be able to pay the mortgage? Who’s going to tell her she can’t go back to community college?

Trump said Biden was dodging the question.

“That’s a typical political statement. Let’s get off this China thing and then he looks, the family, around the table, everything. … I’m not a typical politician that’s why I got elected.”

Biden then uttered words that might come back to haunt him if his family ever has to face a judge, or he becomes president and impeachment were on the table. Biden said, “I have not taken a penny from any foreign source ever in my life.”

If true, it would make former President George H.W. Bush’s proclamation to “read his lips, no new taxes,” look like child’s play. This statement might not age well given that we are learning more about the Biden family corruption every day.

Joe Biden lied, and he lied, and then he lied some more. We are told that Trump is the liar and untrustworthy candidate, and admittedly at times he might not be precise, but whatever inaccurate statements he makes are dwarfed by the volume of false claims made by Biden.

Just in this last debate alone, he lied when he said he never wanted to ban fracking— he has said he does. He claimed that it was the Trump administration that built the “cages” to hold children separated from their parents at the border—it was the Obama administration that did this. He called Trump a racist—Trump passed criminal justice reform, provided funding to black colleges, and established opportunity zones to bring business to low-income minority communities. Biden also claimed that he never called Trump’s China travel ban “xenophobic”—he said that.

Joe Biden displayed a lack of knowledge when it came to renewable energy. He wants to cripple the fossil fuel industry and replace it with expensive renewable energy. That plan sounds nice, but someone needs to tell Joe that there is currently no way to store that energy. When we rely fully on wind and solar power, on days when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing, there is going to be no power.

Donald Trump did what he had to do last night. He kept Biden on the ropes all night and then watched as he tried to get up from the mat. The momentum is clearly in the president’s favor now.

It was only a few weeks ago when it appeared that Trump was in trouble following his first debate performance and then being sidelined due to the coronavirus, but he has been rejuvenated by returning to the campaign trail and being with his legions of MAGA supporters.

He hit a home run and will be hitting the trail again this weekend. No word yet if Joe Biden will be heading back to his Delaware basement or not. After his debate performance, that might be his best option.
