There are consequences for letting a mass number of immigrants into a country at the same time.
The Left in the United States is fine with open borders and allowing in large numbers of immigrants from countries with large numbers of terrorists. If you disagree with them, you are a racist and an Islamaphobe. That is what the Left thinks.
However, they might want to look at other countries and their issues with mass immigration before they cast stones at Trump and the Republicans.
Sweden is a country that makes for a perfect laboratory to test the effects of mass immigration.
The results have not been good.
Allowing a Mass Number of Immigrants Into Sweden Has Been a Disaster
In 2015, Sweden began allowing a large number of asylum-seekers to enter the country from the Middle East. Migrants from Syria, Somalia and Iraq constituted the lion’s share of the asylum-seekers.
In 2015, 160,000 refugees sought asylum in Sweden, that is equivalent to more than 5 million refugees arriving in the United States in a year.
Sweden has been praised by liberals worldwide for their “Nordic Model.” The Nordic Model requires high taxes to pay for a large social safety net.
Swedes were keen on the system for decades, however, they are souring on the program now that the country is letting in large amounts of refugees.
Many of the refugees who come to Sweden are poorly educated, refuse to learn Swedish and are low-skilled workers.
It angers many Swedes that they are having to pay for people that won’t work and won’t assimilate into their culture.
The Swedish economy makes it more difficult for these refugees to join the labor market. The Swedish economy is largely a high skilled economy. There are not enough jobs for low-skilled workers in the country.
The New York Times reported that, “The economy is centered on highly skilled, highly paid pursuits. It has been engineered to minimize the sorts of low-paying service sector jobs that consign people in other countries to the ranks of the working poor. Some argue that Sweden must allow lower-wage service sector jobs to emerge.”
It angers many Swedes some want the entire economy to be remade in order to accommodate non-citizens. They wonder why their job market should be disrupted in the name of people who have not paid into the system.
Many of these immigrants are living off the backs of Swedish tax payers; many of them are unemployed. The unemployment rate was 3.8% among natural born Swedes, and 15% among the foreign born.
Crime has also become a serious issue in the country. Rapes are on the rise there.
The BBC reported that 58% of men convicted in Sweden of rape and attempted rape over the past five years were born abroad, according to data from the Swedish national TV.
The moral of the story is that good intentions can have devastating results. The Swedes might be genuine in their concern for the refugees, however, trying to assimilate a mass amount of people into a completely different culture is hard.
The Democrats in America should think long and hard about their desire for open borders.
