Popular culture has had some shocking moments: In Star Wars we found out that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker’s father; someone Shot JR, and Twitter users are mostly young liberals.

Well, not so much the latter example.

Pew Research did a study that showed that Twitter users are mostly younger, wealthier, and more liberal.

No, you don’t say?

Pew reported that 60% Twitter users were Democrats, and only 35% were Republican.

Trump Meets with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey

Ironically the most infamous Twitter user is Donald Trump. It may not be an exaggeration to say that without Twitter, Trump might not be president.

His Tweets determine the news cycle; influence the stock market, and cause liberals to lose their minds.

That must drive Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey crazy. It would be a bad business move to ban the sitting President of the United States. He draws more attention to his site than any other living being.

Dorsey said in an interview that, “We need to constantly show that we are not adding our own bias, which I fully admit is…more left leaning.”

That is an understatement, but hey, at least he is honest.

However, Twitter claims they don’t ban anyone from their site for political reasons.

Last month, the company said, “We enforce the Twitter rules impartially from all users, regardless of their background or political affiliation.”

Yeah, I am sure they do.

Probably not.

Trump and Dorsey met in the Oval Office on Tuesday.

It must have been a little awkward for the Twitter CEO. The president had called out his company in a series of Tweets earlier in the morning:

Trump Tweeted: “ The best thing to happen to twitter is Donald Trump. So true, but they don’t treat me well as a Republican. Very discriminatory, hard for people to sign on. Constantly taking names off the list. Big complaints by many people.”

Six-minutes later he Tweeted: Should be much higher than that if Twitter wasn’t playing their political games. No wonder Congress wants to get involved-and they should. Must be more, and fairer, companies to get out the WORD!”

That must have made the conversation uncomfortable for Dorsey.

Apparently, the two men had a good meeting judging by both their responses.

A twitter spokesperson said that “Jack had a constructive meeting with the President of the United States today at the President’s invitation. They discussed Twitter’s commitment to protecting the health of the public conversation ahead of the 2020 elections…”

Trump agreed. He tweeted: “Great meeting this afternoon at the White House with Jack from Twitter. Lots of subjects discussed regarding their platform, and the world of social media in general.

Look forward to keeping an open dialogue!”

The Road Ahead for Conservative Speech on Social Media

Twitter users being young and liberal is nothing new; either is the reality of conservative censorship on sites like Twitter.

Social media and search engines are stacked against conservative. Twitter has banned accounts; Google has fired conservatives, and YouTube has banned and demonetized Conservative videos.

Maybe it’s time Conservative investors start their own social media platforms. Our political discourse would be better for it.
