I had an alternative title for this article…

I was going to call it “Adios from Bienvenidos.”

However, after thinking about it what has just transpired in my life as a conservative activist, I think a broader scope was necessary – as I believe that if conservatism (and the GOP itself) is going to survive, people on the Right need to broaden their horizons.

The days of the button-down Oxford conservatives are behind us…

It’s time for a new breed of conservative to rise.

Earlier this year, I was recruited as a political activist, journalist, and reporter for the conservative outreach called Bienvenidos…

The outreach was designed to spread conservatism to the Latino & Hispanic community in order to raise this community’s view of Trump after years of character assassination by the mainstream media.

While the idea sounded fantastic and promising, I knew from the start that it would fall flat…

I just had a feeling in my gut.

Listen To Your Gut

And my gut was right…

But not because of the organization itself – there are a lot of good people that truly care about the direction our country is headed…

No, my problem with the organization was more with how poorly leadership failed in their stewardship. It was just run poorly – and worse than the drama and poor organization were the lies and false promises made.

I know what you’re thinking: a punk rock kid has a problem with authority, big shocker…

However, this TRULY isn’t the case here.

Allow me to explain…

I was picked to join the organization specifically because of my following and for being 100% Central American (Nicaraguan and Salvadoran) before Bienvenidos even had a name or funding…

Back when it was just a collective idea shared by Anna Paulina at a pizzeria in downtown Los Angeles.

As the months went by, we went from that little pizza shop to somehow getting clearance to White House.

All the original crew members—Emma Jimenez, Anthony Cabassa, Drew Hernandez, Linda, and I—were ecstatic…

That is, until I got a group text explaining that we had to undergo a social media scrub.

Meaning we had to delete any and ALL pieces of content that could be possibly labeled as “controversial” or “offensive”…

Which, if you follow me on Instagram, is pretty much 99.9% of my content.

Especially ANY posts that would show me being a member of the Proud Boys – I mean, come on, I might as well delete my entire account!

So, being the contrarian and rebel that I am, I said, “No” – which apparently didn’t make people happy.

Leadership warned me, “Well, you might get blacklisted from the White House, Johnathon.”

Which was a bad move on their part, considering who I am. Getting blacklisted from the White House would have been AWESOME, as it actually would have BOOSTED my reputation in a positive manner.

Can you imagine this headline: “The Punk Rock Patriot Banned from The White House!”?

I sure can.

Anyway, as it turns out, it wasn’t true…

It was just a way to make the brand look squeaky clean because God forbid that there were any differing opinions in a group.

Lies And False Promises

It got even better from there…

We were told that Bienvenidos secured “funding” from some DC power players – meaning we would no longer have to pay for travel and hotel anymore…

Because up until that point, and even now, each individual paid for their own flights, hotels, Uber rides, and everything else– which would have been a big help to a lot of us.

However, if you asked for financial support or reimbursement, you’d be given the runaround so hard that you’d think you were on a treadmill instead of just asking questions.

Then came the Los Angeles Bienveindios event…

And after being told by the president of the organization, Abraham Enriquez, that I could go into the streets and get footage for the event as well as speak at it—this is my home, and I know it better than almost anybody—something else happened.

After the phone call, I get another call from Anna Paulina asking me to delete any content I had that featured her. Apparently, her “campaign manager” suggested that my “controversial background” could be detrimental to her future plans.

Thinking Anna was a friend, I did it – no questions asked.

But then the flyer for L.A event came out – and I realized I wasn’t on it.

Stabbed In The Back

When the event photographer asked the new vice president, Drew Hernandez, why I wasn’t speaking at the event after being told that I was, the answer he got was, “Because he just isn’t. Maybe next time.”

Of course, I wasn’t happy with this decision…

So, with a little persistence, I was told that the decision came from higher positions such as the RNHA.CA (Republican National Hispanic Association California) and the California GOP.

When I asked Anthony Cabassa, Chairman of the RNHA.CA if anything could be done…

He said, “no”.

So when the event came, I showed up anyway…

I’m the Punk Rock Patriot – what do they expect?

I may have come unannounced, but I was respectful. I wanted to show support to my friends that were speaking as well as have an excuse to hang out with some fellow conservatives.

Well, apparently this was a bad idea – as I have now been blacklisted from either participating or attending any future Bienvenido events.

Shunned For Being Different. Wake Up GOP – You NEED People Like Me!

Am I disappointed?

Yeah. I truly thought Bienvenido was different – that they saw the value of having a young conservative from a different segment of society on their side.

I could have helped them make a difference if they opened their minds to the potential of who I could bring to the table…

That is, if Bienvenido actually WANTED to help make a difference in the Latino and Hispanic community.

They don’t…

They’re simply a resume builder for aspiring political candidates.

They do ZERO outreach, made ZERO attempt to register voters, did ZERO work, and believe that the amount of social media followers somebody has shows the amount of success they have obtained.

They’re wrong…

They’re what’s wrong with the GOP. They’re trying to keep the status quo – while shunning people that are different from them.

This is why I’ve decided to say “adios” to Bienvenidos.

Good riddance to bad rubbish…
