Yes, you read that headline right. This past weekend, police officers in Palm Beach, Florida were directed to restrict hundreds of conservative students from attending an annual event hosted by Turning Point USA.
I suppose it’s to be expected that county officials would throw a fit when droves of young, enthusiastic, Trump-supporting students tried to attend a conference in a Blue county.
But the fact that I can say that this was bound to happen based on a person’s political leanings just shows how disturbingly un-American the Left has become.
In what was supposed to be the grand kickoff of Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit, “county officials” suddenly changed the venue’s capacity to a strict 2,000-person limit when the event began on Saturday night.
To enforce the arbitrary rule in their crackdown on the event, the county sent multiple police officers who blocked the entrance.
The almost one thousand students who were left stranded outside of the conference did not take well to the news and began chanting, “Let us in!” for hours.
In a video I posted to Twitter from the event, you can see the officers who are enforcing the county’s draconian orders despite students’ unrest.

Eventually, Turning Point brought the entire event outside to stand in solidarity with the students who were not allowed to come in.
Rightfully so, TPUSA Founder Charlie Kirk, FNC’s Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump Jr., and other speakers used a bullhorn outside of the convention center in defiance of the county’s order.
The organization, which has been leading the fight for freedom on college campuses for years, proudly stood by that principle and acted when put to the test.
After Saturday, officers stopped blocking the entrance and it suddenly became a nonissue.
But, to me, the bigger story here is this:
In a conversation I had with one of the officers, he told me that he was essentially just doing his job as he got his order through the chain of command, directing him to not allow anyone else in.
Regardless, upset students alleged that the county’s order, as well as the officers’ actions to enforce it, were entirely unconstitutional as a direct violation of their First Amendment rights.
What I found to be most interesting was that the officer told me that, although he took an oath to uphold the Constitution, it’s not up to him to decide whether he will enforce it, again stating he is just doing his job.
To me, this is one of the biggest problems in America today. Many people who swear an oath to uphold our rights and freedoms are abandoning that ideal to keep their jobs.
While I understand they are being put between a rock and a hard place when it comes to risking their livelihoods, is it worth risking everyone’s freedom?
We’ve seen this over and over again, especially during the early lockdowns, and today still with social distancing requirements and mask mandates. All of it is a direct violation of our freedom in this country.
Police departments are often going along with any old tyrannical order from the county, mayor, or governor, despite being oathbound to uphold the Constitution first and foremost.
Yet those who are supposed to protect us have essentially abandoned the founding document in order to keep their jobs. While it’s sad that this is what we’ve come to, we must continue to fight against it by helping others understand the importance of it.
Benjamin Franklin once wisely said America is “A republic, if you can keep it.”
Right now, it seems like we are losing it and that is a terrifying thought.
