Last week, I was talking with my incredibly talented FreedomWire teammate Grace Saldana about our team Instagram account.
We were discussing one of the posts that featured a recent article on AOC. A liberal Instagram user had left a comment, probably not expecting a response from anyone, let alone the author of that article.
I asked Grace, “Did you see the debate I was having on our Instagram?”
She replied, “Yeah… but, I don’t know…”
“You don’t know what?” I queried.
“Well, you called him ‘stupid’… that’s not very, um, professional.”
She’s right, you know…
As an associate editor for FreedomWire, I should probably have more decorum and be a little more reserved with my public interactions when it comes our company.
However, I’m not going to be something I’m not—and while I can be extremely polite when the occasion warrants, I refuse to show respect to those that show none to me.
I am who I am.
Punk Rock Patriotism
I was raised on punk rock music, skateboarding, football, wrestling, and heavy metal.
I got my first tattoo when I was 20-years-old (a shamrock on my upper thigh) and by 45 I was covered—arms, back, chest—much like the bikers and punk rockers of old.
I listen to loud, aggressive music when I work out. Punk rock, old metal, newer hardcore stuff—it’s all in play when I need to get my heart going and the adrenaline pumping.
I’m a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu—and while some consider me a “high” level grappler, I realize there are others above me and I’m humbled by that knowledge, which is something I try to pass onto my students.
I’m also a Gen-Xer, so I don’t feel that the traditional Conservative look applies to my generation, and it’s doubtful that you’ll ever see me in a suit. Not my style.
I’m also a “newer” Conservative.
I spent most of my life learning Left, so I know the mentality of those that lean Left now. I can tell you without any hesitation that they’re all pretty stupid, because I was too.
I was dumb and idealistic.
I thought that there was a reality in which we could reach some form of utopia – that the entire world could live together in peace and harmony, just like those Coke ads from the early 1970s…
Remember this one?
I sure do.
I thought that it was possible…but then I learned a very important lesson: we can never have utopia until there is freedom everywhere. But the Left is content with giving up freedoms (or taking them) in a perverted attempt to reach equality.
The Only Utopia Is A Free Society
If they would just realize that the ONLY utopia worth living is the one with the most freedom, our two sides could probably get along.
But they haven’t accepted that simple fact yet.
They may some day, but right now, they think that equality is all about taking away from one side to give to another instead of simply providing the same freedoms for all.
It’s our…well, at least MY—biggest point of contention.
It’s why I’m brutally honest and blunt with Liberals. I refuse to play their game of snarky political correctness, and it gets me into… arguments.
Not in person, since most people don’t want to argue with a 6’1”, 290-pound, former Division 1 football player who is a black belt in BJJ in person, so they yell their insults and labels from across the digital sea.
I’ll call them dumb, stupid, idiotic, or any other modifier I need to get my point across as succinctly as possible. As William Shakespeare once said, “brevity is the soul of wit.”
I’m not a professional…
You’re not going to see me on Fox News in a suit with perfectly coifed hair (not because I don’t have any, but because I’m not their style).
You’re not going to see me standing next to a prominent GOP member smiling like a goon because that’s not MY style…
You will, however, find me in the trenches every day, fighting for the soul of America – and like Christ, I feel my place is among the “sinners,” not my fellow “saints” (and no, I’m not comparing myself to Christ, I’m simply following his lead when it comes to converting the masses).
Because I believe in our country…
And I believe in the freedoms that God bestowed upon us as His children and will fight for them, as I feel I’m fighting against evil itself.
So, if we ever meet, don’t be scared. Don’t let my lack of professionalism or decorum turn you off…
Don’t let my Iron Maiden shirt or “Make America Grapple Again” hat scare you off either.
Just know that there are grunts like me, willing to mix it up daily with the Left…
And there are MILLIONS like me.
