There are conspiracy theories, and then there are just theories—and right now, one of the theories floating around the internet is that America is ripe for a cyberattack the likes of which we’ve never seen before.

With political divisiveness at an all-time high, political violence becoming a problem, and a vengeful DNC out to wreak havoc on the Right for electing Trump, we’ve been left wide open for such an attack.

Normally, our government is vigilant in our protection…

But with all the chaos going on in Washington, nobody seems to be paying attention—or at the very least they’re spread too thin, focused on looking for domestic threats rather than foreign.

Now, while there are some that believe that attack could come in the form of a land assault a la Red Dawn, we can put those thoughts at ease.

Why?

Because a foreign ground attack would be fruitless. Enemy troops on our shores would UNITE the two warring political ideologies of the Left and Right.

Not to mention, private American citizens own more guns than the Russian army, so it’s safe to say that if there is an attack, it won’t be ground forces…at least not yet.

If We’re Attacked, We Won’t See It Coming

No, the rumors that have been swirling of late have nothing to do with a ground assault and more to do with an attack on American’s way of life.

For years now, the threat of an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack has been widely spread. China and Russia both definitely have the equipment to pull of such an event, but that’s doubtful as well, seeing as they’d have to get that kind of weaponry onto American shores undetected. Given how hard that would be, that route is more or less closed to them.

No…

If we’re going to be attacked, it’ll be from thousands of miles away by hackers or computer programmers that will figure out a way to circumvent our digital firewalls and shut down our communications and power grids.

Believe it or not, the internet isn’t as secure as you think.

A lot of the digital backdoors and alleys have been there since the internet was created, hidden to 99.9% of the public. But for those that know how to access them, the entire internet is wide open.

Honestly, this is what makes blockchain technology so integral to our future. It’s virtually impossible to hack or access, and that’s why a lot of companies, including some of the world’s biggest banks, are switching their systems over to the innovation that gave rise to Bitcoin.

But blockchain can’t save us yet. It’s not being used widely enough…

So, could you imagine if China, Russia, or Iran decided to try one of these attacks and succeeded?

Total Communications Blackout: A Dark America

Imagine no communications, no internet, no phone service. The only thing left would be written letters and carrier pigeons.

It’s a scary proposition, especially seeing how few people have landlines anymore.

This came to mind because something weird happened in Florida on January 13th. In the late afternoon, the entire state suffered what looked like a communications blackout, mostly affecting customers of AT&T.

At roughly 5 pm, we lost 4G and internet and stayed in the black for roughly two hours.

Now, luckily, 5G was still up and running, but everything else went dark—and for some, there was a feeling of uneasiness.

Not because we thought we couldn’t communicate to the world but because we were worried that this actually WAS the attack that the internet has been warning us about as of late.

I talked to people that were actually scared that this was something bigger than just a glitch.

And that’s where we are as a society.

We’re fearful, and that’s never a good default setting for a society to operate under.

Let’s just hope that things can get settled soon and our security offices can get back to looking for threats OUTWARD instead of inward.

We can’t afford to be caught sleeping on this one.

Editor’s Note: Disruptive technologies like the internet have changed not only lives but our society as a whole. These kinds of innovations come along once in a lifetime, and right now, we’re on the cusp of another breakthrough of this magnitude. That’s why it’s vitally important for all of us to be informed about it.
