Imagine becoming INSTANTLY famous (or infamous) simply for standing up for your rights as an American.
Imagine that your picture is now all over the internet, popping up everywhere you turn simply because you took a stand against people who meant you harm.
That’s got to be a heavy burden…
But Mark and Patricia McCloskey find themselves in that position as we speak. Earlier this week, they brandished firearms outside their house after BLM and ANTIFA protestors destroyed a gate to their home in order to march through their property to get the home of the St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. They were dubbed “The St. Louis Ken and Karen” after their photo went viral, and opinions about their actions differed widely.
What’s funny is that people on both the Left and the Right are applauding their decisions to defend their property from a perceived threat. After all, when you have hundreds of people destroying property and marching into a gated community, it’s pretty understandable to feel threatened.
So, the McCloskey’s exercised their American rights to defend hearth and home.
Living In FEAR
And honestly, who wouldn’t be scared if they saw a horde of people pouring in through a busted gate?
Mark McCloskey told reporters, “It was like the storming of the Bastille, the gate came down and a large crowd of angry, aggressive people poured through. I was terrified that we’d be murdered within seconds. Our house would be burned down, our pets would be killed.”
And who can blame him?
This is something we should ALL be wary of, and that’s why it’s important that our Second Amendment rights aren’t messed with in any way.
Of course, critics say it was a peaceful protest…
In fact, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner is investigating the incident saying, “I am alarmed at the events that occurred over the weekend, where peaceful protesters were met by guns and a violent assault. We must protect the right to peacefully protest, and any attempt to chill it through intimidation or threat of deadly force will not be tolerated.”
Well, somebody should alert Ms. Gardner that peaceful protests that start with the destruction of property are anything BUT peaceful…
Not to mention the threats of actual violence by the mob that was supposed to be peaceful.
McCloskey described why he and his wife were so afraid, saying, “One fellow standing right in front of me pulled out two pistol magazines, clicked them together and said ‘you’re next.’ That was the first death threat we got that night.”
And so, they defended their home within the limits of the law…
But that’s not the full story.
Libs Turning On Their Own?
No, what truly makes this story so compelling is the fact that, by all accounts, the McCloskeys seem to be overwhelmingly liberal. They’re both personal injury attorneys in St. Louis and deal with a LOT of civil rights-related cases.
Not only do they seem to be pretty Liberal, but there are some stories making their way around the internet showing that McCloskey may have given extensively to Democrats over the years.
And on top of all that, the McCloskey’s actively support the BLM movement!
They believe that the cause is right, and they were even worried that the actions of these protesters would harm the movement—and yet the Leftist mob turned on them just as quickly as they’ve turned on anybody that they don’t agree with.
It’s a shame…
They’re being ostracized for protecting themselves—but they STILL back BLM.
Here’s what they said in their official statement, delivered by their personal legal counsel: “Both Mr. and Mrs. McCloskey acted lawfully on their property which sits on a private gated lane in the City of St. Louis. Their actions were borne solely of fear and apprehension, the genesis of which was not race-related. In fact, the agitators responsible for the trepidation were white. The Black Lives Matters movement is here to stay, it is the right message, and it is about time,’ said Albert S. Watkins, legal counsel for Mr. and Mrs. McCloskey. ‘The McCloskeys want to make sure no one thinks less of BLM, its message and the means it is employing to get its message out because of the actions of a few white individuals who tarnished a peaceful protest.’”
Oh yeah, sounds like a couple of bigots, doesn’t it?
They were scared Americans – exercising their American rights…
And regardless of what side of the political aisle they lean to – we need more of this kind of demonstration.
This is why the Constitution was created in the first place…
