Contradicting CDC guidance, Los Angeles public health officials announced this week they are reimposing outdated coronavirus-prevention measures, including yet another mask mandate.

After most limitations were lifted statewide 30 days ago, L.A. County’s public health officer, Dr. Muntu Davis, said during a virtual press conference on Thursday that a new public health order requires all Angelinos to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

“This is an all-hands-on-deck moment,” Davis said, according to CNBC. Because cases have risen to 1,000 new cases each day for a week, there is now “substantial community transmission,” he added.

An infographic released by the county’s government website states the mandate will go into effect at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, July 17.

The guidance clarifies that “exceptions will apply,” similar to those prior to the state’s reopening on June 15, however it did not state what those exceptions will be.

“Full HOO will be on our website no later than July 16,” the statement regarding the new masking requirement reads.

City officials reportedly believe the increase in case rates is stemming from the delta variant that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are contracting.

However, Californians are fed up with arbitrary mandates that appear to be largely ineffective in preventing the spread of the coronavirus, as Dr. Fauci has said himself.

More authoritarian mandates stripping people of their right to make the best decision for their own health will likely not play out well for the state’s elected officials.

Especially considering that disgraced Governor Gavin Newsom is already facing a special recall election in mid-September over his deeply flawed handling of COVID-19, this plan can only backfire on California’s government. Hopefully, Californians will resist additional mandates imposed by their power-hungry government.
