Just a few short months (but what feels like an eternity) ago, Senator Kamala Harris was once a promising presidential contender. After an initial surge in support, her campaign lost nearly all its momentum, and she ultimately dropped out of the race before a single vote was cast in the Democratic primary.
Anyone who watched the Democratic debates last summer will remember Harris taking cheap shots at Joe Biden over his past stance against national public busing in the 1970s. During this exchange, Harris basically called Biden a hypocritical racist, and the two candidates maintained an ongoing rivalry for the remainder of Harris’ campaign. So, naturally, many people would be surprised if Joe Biden would pick Harris to be his running mate in November. However, politics is a dirty business, and politicians who want to advance their agenda often put aside personal animosity and join forces with their worst enemies.
Continuing our analysis of the major names being considered by Joe Biden’s campaign, let’s consider the possibility of Senator Kamala Harris becoming Creepy Joe’s Number Two.
Following last summer’s heated debate, USA Today reported, “Harris cited Biden’s fight against school busing and told the story of a young California girl who was part of the second class to integrate her school.
‘That little girl is me,’ she said.
Biden watched stone-faced as Harris attacked him. When he got his chance to speak, he fired back at Harris, calling her criticism a ‘mischaracterization.’
Biden also appeared to criticize Harris for being a prosecutor.
‘I was a public defender,’ Biden told Harris. ‘I didn’t become a prosecutor.’
Biden argued he didn’t oppose busing but rather opposed federal implementation of that policy.
‘I did not oppose busing in America,’ Biden said. ‘I opposed busing by the Department of Education.’”
However, Kamala Harris was good friends with Joe Biden’s late son Beau, and that may have helped to ease the tensions between the two politicians.
Kamala Harris checks all the intersectional boxes that the Liberal base loves. The Washington Post reported, “Harris is the daughter of immigrants. Her late mother was a breast cancer researcher from India. Her father is an emeritus professor of economics at Stanford University from Jamaica. They divorced when Harris was 7 years old. Harris graduated from Howard University, where her identity as an African American woman was cemented.”
Make no mistake: Kamala Harris is a radical Leftist. She is anti-Second Amendment and favors a blanket assault weapons ban, universal background checks, removal of gun manufacturers licenses, and an attempt to close the loophole that allows some domestic abusers to purchase guns if their victim is a wedded partner.
In 2018, Harris extensively praised Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser Christine Blasey-Ford when she went public with her rape accusations. Time Magazine named Christine Blasey-Ford as one of their “100 most influential people.” Apparently, if you ruin a good man’s reputation, you are celebrated for it on the cover of Time Magazine. As part of that issue, Kamala Harris wrote a short celebratory piece about Ford:
“Her story, spoken while holding back tears, shook Washington and the country. Her courage, in the face of those who wished to silence her, galvanized Americans. And her unfathomable sacrifice, out of a sense of civic duty, shined a spotlight on the way we treat survivors of sexual violence.”
When Blasey-Ford’s case fell apart, Harris remained largely silent. She has also neglected to significantly comment on the ongoing rape allegations against Joe Biden by former Senate staffer Tara Reade.
Harris also proposed during her presidential run that companies be mandated to pay women the same wages as men, completely disregarding the multitude of reasons for those pay disparities. Huffington Post reported, “Under Harris’s plan, companies would be required to obtain an ‘equal pay certification’ from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to prove they pay women equally. They would be required to disclose whether they received that certification on their website’s homepage and to prospective employees.”
How exactly would the employers prove this?
Answer: “To meet certification requirements, companies would have to demonstrate they have eliminated pay disparities between women and men who are doing work of equal value, per Harris’ campaign. To the extent pay disparities do exist for similar jobs, companies will be required to show the gap is based on merit, performance, or seniority—not gender.”
The plan is based on a faulty premise perpetuated by the Left. The largely-debunked wage gap myth continues to shape proposed policies despite its many flaws.
Given Harris’s name recognition and proven track record of leaning far to the Left, it wouldn’t be surprising if Biden picked her as his running mate. Given Biden’s own statements and the common sentiment put forth by Leftist political pundits, the likely VP pick will be a woman, preferably one of color, and this obviously increases the odds that Harris will be tapped for the position.
However, though Harris may be tough and offers a good political resume, she lacks tact and can come across as very unlikable, akin to Hillary Clinton in terms of personality. That’s perhaps the most damning statement that can be made about a politician aspiring to sit in the White House.
But all that aside, will we eventually see Kamala Harris as Biden’s right-hand woman? We’ll find out as the 2020 election approaches.
