During the primary elections, Joe Biden announced unequivocally that he was going to ask a woman—specifically a woman of color—to be his vice-presidential selection. Sure enough, early this week, he announced that former campaign trail rival Kamala Harris was being tapped for the position. On the surface, that might seem like a giant leap forward for women’s rights and for the country itself. However, when you really look at the situation, it is the exact opposite of progress. In fact, it’s fully regressive. By saying that he would only select a woman, Biden has discarded merit and has picked a woman of color just because of her race and gender.

Biden also boxed himself in by making multiple statements that sounded racist and practically had no choice to pick a woman of color. Kamala Harris was his selection, but it strains credulity to believe that the former vice president selected Harris as his vice president because he felt that she was the most qualified for the position. It’s no secret that Harris showed disdain. for Sleepy Joe during the Democrat Primary, so it certainly isn’t an amicable relationship between them.

By picking Kamala Harris strictly because she is a black woman, Joe Biden is defying the infamous maxim of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, who said that individuals should be “judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin.”

America is a country that thrives morally and economically when those who work hard and are the most qualified are hired for a given position. No job should ever be given simply because they check all the intersectional boxes. Harris, being the daughter of an Indian mother and Jamaican father, checks most of those boxes, and that is why she has been selected by Biden. Her selection is nothing more than virtue signaling by the Democrat presidential nominee.

Scarier still, Harris might very well become the president during Joe Biden’s term if, God forbid, he is elected president of the United States. Then our country is stuck with a radical Leftist president who connived her way into the office based simply on the color of her skin and not the content of her character, or even by her qualifications to be president.

It is a good thing that women of color are advancing in our country, however, it shouldn’t matter what they look like or what sex they are. Anyone’s success in life should be based on their hard work, dedication, and skills, and not their gender.

If that is the only criteria for elected office now, this country is in trouble. The best of the best will be denied a position in government simply because they aren’t females of color. It’s not empowering for women to be selected for high-ranking jobs in our government or in private businesses simply because of the way they are born. True empowerment requires they be chosen for their qualifications alone. That would be a true sign of progress in the country.

America has come a long way. Women make up the majority of college degrees and they continue to march up the corporate ladder, and many more are members of Congress. Most of them have done this by their own blood and sweat. It would be a giant step back in gender progress if they were chosen strictly for their gender and race. However, Leftists like Biden don’t see it that way. To them, it’s always about virtue signaling and the almighty narrative for them, and that won’t change now that Kamala Harris has been chosen as Biden’s running mate.
