There’s no denying that the shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio are a tragedy. Something needs to be done to help stop—or at least curb—the growing number of mass shootings in the United States.

Of course…

Things aren’t exactly like the media would have you believe.

Mass shootings aren’t on the rise…

There are fewer now than there have historically been. However, what’s changed is the fact that technology has advanced and mass shootings are getting deadlier.

That IS a problem.

Is there a solution to this?

If you asked some people on the Left—and even some people on the Right—they’ll tell you that the solution is gun control.

Gun control is the government’s way of preventing an American citizen from buying a firearm…

And any form of it, by its very nature, is unconstitutional.

The REASON For The 2nd Amendment Is CLEAR

In fact, the mere act of ANY gun control is in direct opposition to the very reason why the Founding Fathers gave Americans the right to own firearms.

We have the Second Amendment as a protection against tyranny…

And any kind of gun control means that the entity we’re supposed to keep in check is restricting our ability to defend ourselves.

But…

After the deadly mass shootings that have happened over the past few years, it may be time to ask ourselves: is it worth it?

Now…

For people like Bernie Sanders, who tweeted, “There are more than 5 million assault weapons out on the streets of America, which is more than the U.S. military has. That is insane. We must ban the sale, distribution, and transfer of assault weapons in the United States,” this is a rational solution.

If guns are responsible for killing people, then banning guns seems like the answer to our problems…

But it’s not.

If it were that simple, most Americans would ALL be for banning guns…

However, what that would do would be taking those guns out of the hands of responsible gun owners (who make up at least 98% of the population) and leave them in the hands of criminals who obtained their guns illegally.

That adage, “when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns,” is 100% true.

That being the case…

What is the solution?

A Temporary Fix That You May NOT Agree With

Well, confiscating weapons isn’t the answer – we know that…

It’s not a gun problem, it’s a mental health problem. The Left likes to say this is a conservative talking point – but does that make it any less true?

But still, we need better safeguards in place to avoid further devastation…

It may not sound like a conservative ideal – but the “Red Flag” laws that have been up for discussion don’t sound like a bad stop-gap.

What’s a Red Flag law?

A Red Flag law may prevent a mass shooting by allowing family members or law enforcement to petition a state court to order the remove firearms and other weapons TEMPORARILY from those who may present a danger to themselves or others.

This is fairly intuitive. Those who have known the perpetrators of mass shootings can usually tell that they’re mentally unstable. Be that a family member, friend, or colleague…

SOMEBODY knows something is wrong these people.

There are a few states that have Red Flag laws, but Texas and Ohio aren’t among them.

Now, are these Red Flag laws unconstitutional?

Very much so…

But there comes a point when an individual’s rights become secondary to human life – and a TEMPORARY confiscation of a disturbed individual’s firearms seems to be a viable solution…for the moment.

Though hardcore and hardline conservatives may disagree…

It’s better than the alternative.
