Finally, Republican lawmakers are taking action to repeal what is arguably one of the most pointless COVID rules of all: the federal mandate to wear face masks while taking public transportation.
Rep. Andy Biggs and other House Republicans introduced legislation on Friday to lift the mask mandate required on public transportation, including airplanes, trains, and other forms of travel.
Biggs wrote on Twitter the legislation is a companion bill to Sen. Rand Paul’s Travel Mask Mandate Repeal Act of 2021.
“Today, I introduced the House companion bill to @RandPaul’s Travel Mask Mandate Repeal Act of 2021,” said Biggs. “Mask mandates are old news, & are only being kept in place by those who relish controlling our everyday lives. End the tyrannical COVID-19 restrictions.”

The bill is being co-sponsored by Reps. Randy Weber, Lance Gooden, Louie Gohmert, Chip Roy, Tom McClintock, Andrew Clyde, and Bob Gibbs.
Biggs told Fox News in a statement, “There is no scientific evidence for the continuation of mask mandates on public transportation.”
“Bottom line, mask mandates are old news, and are only being kept in place by those who relish controlling our day-to-day lives,” Biggs continued. “The viral spread is collapsing and our normal lives are returning. It’s time for the CDC to follow the science and end the tyrannical COVID-19 restrictions once and for all.”
Rep. Chip Roy minimized the remaining mask mandates to “political theater,” and called for Americans to “choose freedom over fear.”
“It’s time to recognize the never-ending government mask requirements as the political theater they are,” Roy said in a statement. “Americans are capable of making their own decisions; it’s time to choose freedom over fear.”
As America continues to return to normal, with many states forgoing mask mandates, it is especially pointless to continue requiring them on flights and other modes of transportation.
The reality is, most people are congregating once again, largely maskless, and resuming life as it was pre-pandemic. Remaining mask mandates are not only outdated but questionable as to whether they even worked in the first place.
