It seems that every Liberal politician is just waiting for their moment to shine.

No matter the situation, they’re all eagerly awaiting the chance to become a celebrity as soon as a tragedy affects their city or state. When the world’s sympathetic eyes turn towards them, they use stolen victimhood in order to keep the power they have and grow their name recognition.

Look at New York Andrew Cuomo’s actions during the pandemic.

He took it as his opportunity to become “famous,” holding news conferences every day, bashing Trump, and even winning Emmy Awards. He used it to his full advantage, becoming “America’s Governor” while nursing home patients died.

Too bad for him that the truth came out…

Between the way he was treating the women that worked under him and the fact that his administration had been deliberately underreporting the death toll from his nursing home policy, Cuomo’s gilded image quickly fell apart.

If it wasn’t for the pesky TRUTH, Cuomo would have had a GREAT 2020.

That’s sort of where the line is drawn politically, though.

While Liberal politicians seem to be waiting for their moment to show the world just how woke they are, Conservatives tend to care more about fixing the actual problems.

Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis is obviously one of those Liberal politicians waiting for his chance to prove his wokeness—and in his effort to get his name in the headlines, he just fabricated a terrorist attack out of thin air.

Trantalis’ Time To Shine

In celebration of Pride Month in the US, the south Florida city of Ft. Lauderdale was hosting a Pride parade in the affluent, predominantly LGBTQ neighborhood of Wilton Manors—a yearly occurrence familiar to anyone who lives in the area.

Unfortunately, this year’s parade became the scene of a tragic accident when a truck driver lost control of his vehicle and careened into a crowd, killing one and injuring a few others.

Immediately after the crash (and we’re talking within minutes, not hours), Mayor Trantalis made the following statement: “This is a terrorist attack against the LGBT community. This is exactly what it is. Hardly an accident. It was deliberate, it was premeditated, and it was targeted against a specific person. Luckily they missed that person, but unfortunately, they hit two other people.”

That’s a bold statement to make, especially when the person making it has no knowledge of the actual facts.

This was Trantalis trying to get his 15 minutes of national exposure, taking advantage of the situation to show how much he cared about a marginalized community.

However, there’s one major problem with his statement: this wasn’t a “terrorist” attack against the LGBTQ community or anyone else. It was simply an accident.

Even worse, the driver was a part of the parade. The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus, to which both the deceased and the truckdriver belonged, released a statement saying that the 77-year-old driver had been driving the truck behind them due to ailments preventing him from walking the duration of the parade.

This wasn’t anywhere close to an attack on the LGBTQ community…

But Trantalis oh so desperately wanted it to be.

Elected Officials Shouldn’t Be Cowards

He wanted it to be an attack so bad that he called it one before having all the facts. Why? What could he have gained to do so OTHER than notoriety?

I’ll answer that: Nothing.

He figured it was his time to shine…but he jumped the gun and wound up looking like a fool. Even worse, he made a 77-year-old man into an “anti-LGBT terrorist.”

Sure, he issued another prepared statement afterward, but nowhere in it did he admit to being wrong or apologizing for uttering such irresponsible words.

Here’s what he said: “Last evening, at the start of what was to be a celebration of pride for the LGBT community and commemoration of our hard-won victories for equality, our community faced the worst of tragedies. The grief of our LGBT community — and greater Fort Lauderdale as a whole — is palpable. I was an eyewitness to the horrifying events. It terrorized me and all around me. I reported what I saw to law enforcement and had strong concerns about what transpired — concerns for the safety of my community. I feared it could be intentional based on what I saw from mere feet away. Law enforcement took what appeared obvious to me and others nearby and investigated further — as is their job. As the facts continue to be pieced together, a picture is emerging of an accident in which a truck careened out of control.”

What a coward.

He can’t even admit to being wrong.

He can’t own up to calling an innocent man a “terrorist.”

But would you expect any different from a Liberal politician?

We shouldn’t.

This is what they do.
