We knew Fox News was heading in an unlikely direction recently, but we didn’t know it would be this bad.
You might think the biggest conservative news outlet would allow a well-known conservative commentator to condemn a far-Left billionaire who funds many of our country’s most radical efforts like Black Lives Matter…but the network has shown they have zero tolerance for that.
On Wednesday, Fox News shut down former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich after he went too conservative for the network while talking on a panel on Outnumbered. Gingrich was attempting to correlate the spike in crime in Democrat-run cities to George Soros funding Leftist District Attorneys—a point which was interrupted multiple times.
Gingrich said, “Look, the number one problem in almost all these cities is George Soros-elected, Left-wing, anti-police, pro-criminal district attorneys who refuse to keep people locked up.” He continued, “Just yesterday they put somebody back on the streets who’s wanted for two different murders in New York City.”
He went on, “You cannot solve this problem — and both Harris and Biden have talked very proudly out what they call ‘progressive district attorneys.’ Progressive district attorneys are anti-police, pro-criminal, and overwhelmingly elected with George Soros’s money.”
Instead of politely changing the subject or intelligently debating Gingrich, Fox News’ co-host Melissa Francis responded, “I’m not sure we need to bring George Soros into this.”
That’s a reply that clearly means she, for some reason, doesn’t want to discuss Soros’ role in funding Leftist efforts. Of course, that isn’t a conspiracy theory; it’s a simple fact, which Gingrich continued to defend: “He [Soros] paid for it, I mean, why can’t we discuss the fact that millions of dollars…”.
Until he was interrupted by co-host Marie Harff who said, “George Soros doesn’t need to be a part of this conversation.”
After an awkward pause, Harris Faulkner transitioned the conversation, while producers cut away from Gingrich.
That exchange speaks for itself.
The Fox News commentators do not want us, the viewers, to know that George Soros commits hundreds of millions of dollars to groups, activists, and officials who advance his causes, even though the proof that Soros is involved with financing these political efforts is basically a well-known fact. It is no secret.
I don’t know what reason the network would have for blacklisting the subject of Soros, but regardless of what it is, it doesn’t justify restricting pertinent information that a guest is sharing with viewers. That is, at least in a fair and honest media.
However, Faulkner, who was leading the show, issued an apology on Thursday stating, “So, we had a little incident on the show yesterday that was not smooth. And while I was leading that segment, we had interruptions, and I sat silently while all of that played out. Also not ideal,” she explained.
“Our guest, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is beloved and needed to be allowed to speak with the openness and respect that this show is all about, was interrupted… We don’t censor on this show.” Faulkner added.
While her apology seems to be genuine, it is still concerning that two other Fox News anchors so adamantly shut down the conversation. This is not the first flub the network has been condemned for recently by conservatives. Just last month, the network reportedly cut away from specific keynote speakers at the Republican National Committee Convention.
I certainly hope Fox News is not taking an ugly turn but it could be where they are headed if this trend continues.
