You want to talk culture shock? Try being a native New Yorker uprooted and planted in the South as a child….
It’s one of those “same planet, different world” kind of things.
Back in the late 70s and all throughout the 80s, I was surrounded by people that had a romantic recollection of what the South was and what it was fighting for.
I can’t ever recall one person EVER talking about slavery being the reason why they were fighting. To them, it was all about states’ rights…
And when you think about it, it makes a LOT of sense. Back in the late 1800s, just about 1% of Southerners owned slaves. In that context, it’d be hard to get non-slave owners to fight for something they’d never have.
During the Civil War, in the minds of the men fighting the battles, it was about Southern pride and states’ rights.
And seeing as my first few years in Florida were spent in a trailer park with other lower-income families, I tend to believe them. This “states rights” narrative was passed down through families—so for those that said it was simply about slavery, you either don’t know the truth or haven’t spent time with any REAL Southerners.
Democrats Trying To Erase A Loss
I never bought into the whole Confederacy thing…
In face, I reveled in the fact that I came from the side that won – and would tell my Southern pals that any time I could just because I enjoyed how it stuck in their craw.
Fast forward 40 years later and I’m still proud to have come from the side that won…
However, I now have a TRUE understanding of what the VAST majority of the South was fighting for – and as an American patriot, I can comprehend the spirit of their disdain for the North.
But it seems Democrats aren’t happy about losing that fight…
So, in order to erase that loss from their history, they’re trying to take down the imagery and symbols of that time period in an attempt actually REWRITE that history.
They’re taking down statues of all the Democrats they see…
Which is fine with me.
It seems that cancel culture wants to do away with everything that has a racist past.
They can’t seem to get beyond the crimes of those who lived HUNDREDS of years ago.
Well, if we can’t beat them, maybe we should join them…
First order of business: ban or abolish the Democratic Party.
Seriously, they were the orchestrators of slavery – and there is NOTHING more racist than that.
So, if all things with a racist past have to go, then the DNC should be at the top of the list.
GOP Writing The Biggest Wrong In America
That’s how Rep. Louie Gohmert feels.
This Texas Republican recently introduced a bill that would ban the Democratic Party due to the party’s history of having supported slavery and the Confederacy, saying “that is the standard to which they are holding everyone else, so the name change needs to occur.”
He may be neglecting to mention that they’re also responsible for Jim Crow and fighting against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He needs more ammunition than just slavery, but he makes a good point.
Rep. Gohmert also went on to say, “Resolved that the speaker of the House of Representatives shall remove any item that named symbolizes or mentions any political organization or party that has ever held a public position that supported slavery or the Confederacy from any area within the House wing of the Capitol or any House office building and shall donate such item or symbol to the Library of Congress, and two, that any political organization or party that has ever held a public position that supported slavery of the Confederacy shall either change its name or be barred from participation in the House of Representatives.”
Sounds right – and fair – to me!
If we’re going to get rid of statues and portraits, then it’s time to get rid of the most racist thing America has ever had…
“I actually think that the Republicans are the party of jobs and the Democrats are the party of mobs.” – Donald Trump
