Whatever would we do without the rich celebrities who live to shove their moral superiority down our throats? In the latest update in the ongoing George Floyd protests (giving the protesters exactly what they want) many prominent celebrities have suddenly started sharing a new initiative to defund the police. Yes, you heard that right. The multi-millionaire Hollywood elitists, who sit pretty in their wealthy gated communities with top-notch security, want the government to defund the police forces that protect hundreds of millions of low- and middle-class income Americans. This is perhaps the most hypocritical and disgusting thing I’ve heard come out of Hollywood in recent years, maybe ever.

In an interesting twist in Tuesday night’s riots, we saw massive numbers of New Yorkers marching toward Mayor DeBlasio’s mansion chanting “DeBlasio resign.”

While it’s tempting to enjoy the fact that a liberal movement is turning against Mayor DeBlasio, once the King of the Left, it’s important to ask why before we get too excited.

The reason the Black Lives Matter protestors were chanting was in response to DeBlasio’s defense of NYPD officers caught on video driving through a crowd of protestors who were attacking the officers in their vehicle. DeBlasio stated, “It’s inappropriate for protestors to surround a police vehicle and threaten police officers… It’s unacceptable.”

Apparently, DeBlasio didn’t get the protestors’ memo that apparently all police officers are bad and do not deserve to be defended. If you defend the officers, you attack the core beliefs of the protesters, and you deserve to be attacked yourself.

This is the utter ridiculousness of the movement.

Following the incident, celebrities decided that they too felt compelled to support the movement to abolish the police. According to the Rolling Stone, big names including Lizzo, the Weeknd, John Legend, and Natalie Portman signed an open letter written by Black Lives Matter. The letter calls for Leftist political agenda items including Universal Basic Income, and states in part, “We call for defunding of police and for those dollars to be rerouted to create a public national healthcare system.”

John Legend confirmed his support of defunding the police and “defend black lives” on Twitter, saying “I signed on to #DefendBlackLives and to push to #DefundThePolice. Join our 5 days of action with @Mvmnt4BlkLives.”

Perhaps the worst part about this is the fact that the vast majority of police officers dedicate every day of their careers to protecting their communities and ensuring the safety of those who live in them. A movement like this is an absolute betrayal of that dedication.

I am utterly disgusted that Hollywood feels so morally superior to the poor and people of color that they would dare attempt to convince them that their best form of protection needs to be abolished. This doesn’t bring justice, it eliminates it. This is an arguably racist notion that tacitly implies that poor people and minorities don’t deserve to be protected. Keeping these communities safe is less important than funding a universal healthcare system.

Furthermore, this call came immediately after a night of unrest, where many more police officers were shot in the line of duty trying to maintain law and order during the riots. The fact that officers – including black officers – have now DIED because of the riots says everything we need to know about this “movement.” It’s not about protecting black lives, nor is it even about protecting life itself. It’s about furthering a Leftist agenda in the name of racial justice.

Like Ronald Reagan once said, “If fascism ever comes to America, it will come in the name of liberalism.”
