One would think that if you were elected into public office, you’d have some grasp on what “politics” entails. Trump seems to understand the political game perfectly with ZERO background of civil service, so you would think somebody who started their public service in 2006 would have a grasp…
But that may be too much to ask in today’s age.
Ilhan Omar seems to be lacking the same basic knowledge of politics as many of her freshman class of Congress members.
You would think that being in the DC machine for past three months would have smartened her up to some of the subtleties of the political life…
But her latest statement shows that they have not.
Open Mouth, Insert Foot
Omar made a HUGE public gaff recently when talking about the tragedy of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the U.S….
Calling the cowardly plot “some people that did something.”
A lot of people took umbrage to that — from both sides of the aisle…
But as many people who have denounced her over here ridiculous statement, she does have a few ardent defenders backing her up — namely, other freshman congresswomen AOC and Rashida Tlaib.
One person who didn’t take kindly to her dismissive comments about one of the most tragic days in U.S. history was former Navy SEAL, and Omar’s fellow freshman Congressman, Dan Crenshaw.
For those that don’t know, Dan lost an eye due to damage he received during one of his combat tours in the Middle East…
So if there’s anybody qualified to speak on the event that put him in that war-torn region — it would be him.
After hearing her description, Dan tweeted: “First Member of Congress to ever describe terrorists who killed thousands of Americans on 9/11 as ‘some people who did something.’ Unbelievable.”
Of course, Omar didn’t take too kindly to Dan’s tweet, tweeting herself: “This is dangerous incitement, given the death threats I face. I hope leaders of both parties will join me in condemning it.
My love and commitment to our country and that of my colleagues should never be in question. We are ALL Americans!”
Crenshaw said in a video interview: “It was terrorists that killed almost 3,000 Americans and we should talk about it that way. We should talk about it with deference … All Representative Omar had to do was explain herself. [She can] say whatever she wants, say she didn’t mean it, I don’t know. Diffuse the situation, but don’t double down, alright? Don’t play the victim card and don’t start making accusations at me. I just think that was uncalled for.”
But that wasn’t coup de grace…
Dan Takes His Fellow Freshman to School
After Ilhan Omar and her cronies — like AOC — kept repeating the accusations that this was Dan inciting violence, he decided to hit them with a truth bomb.
This was probably VERY hard for Omar to hear, but it needed to be said…
In a follow up Tweet, Dan had this to say: “Just so we are clear on basic notions of reality: When someone calls out a public official for things they said, it is not endangering their life or inciting violence. Claiming otherwise is just an attempt to silence your critics.”
It’s time for Ilhan Omar to put on her big girl pants, stop playing the victim, and listen to the wisdom that Dan is dishing out here.
She’s a public figure now, an elected official holding public office. She is going to be criticized and hated regardless of her views on terrorism.
She’s got to be ready and prepared to take that criticism and not throw out the race, gender, or religion cards.
Maybe she should just acknowledge her mistakes and try to rectify them…
It’s a much better approach than whining about it and getting your friends to stick up for you like it’s a middle school disagreement.
“I can’t stand whining.” – Hillary Clinton
