The House Democrats are contemptible people.
They are so contemptable that the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress.
That’s right. They are holding the attorney general in contempt for refusing to break the law.
They are upset that Barr is not turning over the entire redacted Mueller report to the committee.
There is one problem: Barr would be violating the rights of Americans by doing so.
Why Barr Can’t Release the Entire Mueller Report to Congress
Americans are protected, by law, from having grand jury information made public. Parts of the report were redacted to ensure that those being investigated were protected under the law.
However, the Dems could care less. They want to take down Trump — laws be damned!
The Dems on the House Judiciary have been playing games with the Trump administration, and Attorney General Barr has been their whipping boy.
Last week, Barr refused to testify in front of the House Judiciary committee because they broke precedent by telling the AG that he would face questions from committee lawyers, not just the lawmakers themselves.
That breaks by precedence because lawyers are typically only brought in to question when someone is under investigation for a crime: Barr has committed no crime.
Barr has bent over backwards to provide as much transparency as possible throughout the process. He released a four-page summary of the report conclusions and released the entire report — with necessary redactions — to the public, even though he was not required to do so.
His reward: character assassination by the Dems.
They have accused him of being a Trump stooge and have sought to tarnish is name and professional legacy.
He was willing to work with the congressional Democrats until they started playing games and wanted him to release the entire un-redacted report to Congress.
The assistant attorney general wrote this in response to the Dems request: “As we repeatedly explained, the attorney general could not comply with your subpoena in its current form without violating the law, court rules, and court orders without threatening the independence of the justice department’s prosecutorial functions.”
He is one hundred percent correct.
That didn’t stop the committee’s chairman, Jerry Nadler. The detestable New York Democrat said: “This is a lawless administration. It is denying the American people the information they need by defying all subpoenas. It’s the first administration you’ve ever seen where they say we’ll deny all subpoenas from Congress whether it’s on the mole investigation or on security clearances or in anything else they defy the law.”
They are defying subpoenas because the subpoenas require the administration to break the law. The president is asserting executive privilege because the Dems want to use the levers of power for strictly partisan reasons, and not to uphold the rule of law. This has nothing to do with preserving the oversight role of the U.S. Congress.
There are already six committees investigating Trump. They know the only way to beat Trump is to impeach him. They are feeling nervous about their prospects to unseat the president in 2020.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoye, parroted this talking point when he said: “There is a big picture here, and the big picture is our democracy, our constitution, the ability of the American people to know what its executive department is doing … this is perhaps the greatest cover-up of any president in American history.”
If Trump and Barr are covering something up, they are bad at it. THEY RELEASED THE MUELLER REPORT. How could they be hiding anything?
The Democrats are using the levers of power to destroy president Trump. That is their only concern. They could care less about the Constitution!
