Chick-fil-A, a fast-food favorite for Christians and non-Christians alike, a restaurant known for what customers coined “the Lord’s chicken” and for sticking to its guns on supporting Biblical values, has caved to the Leftist mob. It’s definitely not a surprise considering just last year, they made the controversial decision to no longer work with organizations that support the Biblical definition of marriage or oppose same-sex relationships. The fast-food restaurant attempted to disguise that action by saying their contract with those organizations had simply expired and they decided to discontinue their partnerships as a business decision. While that was debatably not in line with the Christian faith that brought them so much success, many Christians gave them the benefit of the doubt considering they hadn’t done anything like this in the past.
But now, no more benefit of the doubt for them. Their actions this week are unacceptable considering this is the second slap in the face to their Christian customers in the past 12 months. They’re no longer about values; they’re about profit, and it’s tragic to see.
Dan Cathy Kneels
In a shocking video, Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy took the anti-racism virtue-signaling card further than even the most outspoken white activists for the Black Lives Matter cause. Last Sunday, Cathy was speaking on a panel at Passion City Church along with black Christian rapper Lecrae and pastor Louie Giglio. During that discussion, Cathy said whites should show a “sense of shame” for the inherent racism they obliviously demonstrate. He urged whites to make up for it by shining a black person’s shoes, and then he got down and shined Lecrae’s.
Cathy continued on his condemnation of whites: “We’re shameful. We’re just adding to it. Our silence is so huge this time. We cannot be silent. Someone has to fight. God has blessed our city and it’s shameful how we’ve let things get so out of whack.” He just pushed the groupthink “silence is violence” narrative to avoid the effects of cancel culture for his own company, and he essentially admits as much.
The CEO noted, “about a dozen Chick-fil-A restaurants vandalized in the last week, but my plea would be for the white people, rather than point fingers at that kind of criminal effort, would be to see the level of frustration and exasperation and almost the sense of hopelessness that exists on some of those activists within the African-American community.” So, never mind the fact that rioters are destroying innocent businesses, killing cops, and ruining the communities many blacks reside in. Nothing matters to them but profit and glory.
A Lesson From Scripture
Cathy must have missed the point of the Biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo. These three men refused to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar’s statue, vowing to only kneel before God, which earned them some dire consequences. The king, in his fury, threw them into a furnace with the same anger that a modern Leftist “cancels” anyone who stands up to them. But only a short-sighted person would miss the ending of that story, where God made them immune to burning in the flames, because of their loyalty King of Kings instead of an earthly power. This shocked the Babylonian king who brought them out of the fire, appointed them to higher office, and declared that the God of Israel must be worshipped, instead of himself.
Metaphorically speaking, Cathy bowed. He did not stick to his values, not even for a promise of heavenly reward. He sacrificed his company’s integrity and faith in God in exchange for earthly reward and safety from mob disapproval.
Chick-fil-A sold out. But it’s not going to play out well for them. The more they choose to flaunt their sense of moral superiority for acceptance by the Left, the further they will drive their loyal base away. While there may be temporary approval, they can’t have their cake and eat it too – Christians know that better than anyone.
