“Make the ATF great again,” the Biden Administration might as well say amid their latest move to add restrictions on tobacco.
Not only is President Biden coming for your guns, but he’s also coming for red meat and tobacco products – all staples of American culture.
In the next logical progression of Democrats’ attempt to gain complete control over all aspects of our lives, particularly when it comes to health, the Biden administration is seeking to advance two new tobacco product restrictions “to significantly reduce disease and death” in minority communities.
As if people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and low-income Americans, are incapable of making their own decisions, the FDA announced in a press release Thursday that it is moving to ban menthol as a flavor in cigarettes and outlaw all “characterizing flavors” in cigars.
“With these actions, the FDA will help significantly reduce youth initiation, increase the chances of smoking cessation among current smokers, and address health disparities experienced by communities of color, low-income populations, and LGBTQ+ individuals, all of whom are far more likely to use these tobacco products,” said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock.
The press release also made it a point to repeatedly mention the latest decision is based on “scientific evidence.” After the events of last year, I’m not sure the general public has much confidence in the “science” government officials and bureaucrats promote.
Mitch Zeller, Director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, explained that African Americans have been “targeted” and “disproportionately impacted” by tobacco use, adding that the ethnic group hasn’t seen the same “progress” on this issue as other groups.
“Despite the tremendous progress we’ve made in getting people to stop smoking over the past 55 years, that progress hasn’t been experienced by everyone equally,” Zeller said, referring to African Americans.
Consistent with the Left’s anti-police narrative, the FDA vowed that the new rules will only be legally enforceable against “manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, importers, and retailers,” not private citizens.
Biden’s war on tobacco is a continuation of previous actions the Obama-Biden administration took banning other types of flavored cigarettes in 2009.
At this rate, what’s to stop Biden’s FDA from outlawing tobacco altogether? First, it’s flavored smoking tobacco, next it’s plain tobacco, then other substances. Under Democrat-leadership, this is bound to get worse as officials continue expanding government’s role in our private lives.
