Senator Bernie Sanders believes all Americans over 18 should be able to vote, including terrorists and rapists.
That’s right, that is not a typo.
He wants ALL felons to be able to vote regardless of their crime.
Sanders was asked by a student at a town hall if murderers and individuals convicted of sexual assault should be allowed to vote.
He answered in the affirmative: “People in jail can vote … I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy, yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away … you’re running down a slippery slope.”
Is he trying to claim that denying felons the right to vote will lead to non-felons being denied the right?
I suppose it is his way of saying that this paves the way for minorities to be disenfranchised.
I am taking a stab in the dark on this one; but with liberals, it’s a good chance it has something to do with accusing Republicans of race-baiting.
Comrade Bernie continued, “What our campaign is about, and what I believe, is creating a vibrant democracy. Today, as you know, we have one of the lowest voter turnouts of any major country on Earth. I want to see us have one of the highest voter turnouts.”
So we should let murderers vote to accomplish this?
It is the civic duty of law-abiding citizens to vote; however, it is not the responsibility of the government to compel these people to vote. If they want to vote, they can.
Bernie’s home state of Vermont is one of only two states that allow people to vote while they’re in prison. Most states prohibit prisoners from voting while they’re locked up behind bars.
The Supreme Court has upheld the right of states to prevent prisoners from voting.
Most states allow prisoners to vote after they leave prison.
However, they forgo that right when they are behind bars.
Letting the inmates vote would be like giving them the control of the asylum. Only the asylum is the entire country.
They would likely vote for politicians who are soft on crime and pander to them.
Forty-eight other states don’t support letting prisoners vote. There is a reason for that.
It is a known fact that people from high-crime areas tend to support Democrats.
Allowing prisoners to vote would likely give an advantage to the Democrats.
Could this be part of Comrade Bernie’s motivation?
Call me a pessimist, but I would say that it may have something to do with it.
As of 2016, 6.1 million people were prevented from voting due to a felony conviction.
According to the FBI, an estimated 1,247,321 violent crimes occurred nationwide. These include aggravated assault, robbery, rape and murder.
Sanders is OK with people like Ricky White Jr. being allowed to vote.
Who is he?
He is a Delaware man who raped a girl repeatedly over the course of five years. She was only 12 when the assault began. White was charged with 11 counts of second-degree rape, four counts of sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography and other charges.
And Bernie wants people like him to vote.
Think about that.
