The draconian and unconstitutional lockdowns imposed on small businesses across America have left many hanging on by a thread, and many more that have been forced to close their doors permanently.
As Congress, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, dithered over a relief bill, millions of American business owners and workers were left in limbo, grappling with the unbearable anxiety of not knowing what comes next.
But the American people are generous people capable of helping their fellow countrymen without the intrusion of the government. I know, crazy concept. Who would have thought that the government doesn’t need to be involved in every aspect of our lives? Turns out, we are adults and can help ourselves and others.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy recently began a fund to help struggling small businesses survive around the country. To date, the fund has raised just under $20 million and rising. It has drawn the attention of celebrity millionaires like Kid Rock, who announced that he will be giving $100,000 to the Barstool Fund.
The Federalist reported, “Barstool Sports founder and President Dave Portnoy has raised over $18 million for struggling small businesses that have continued paying employees despite financial devastation caused by crippling government lockdowns.
Nearly 80 businesses have already been supported by the Barstool Fund after Portnoy became fed up with unjust lockdowns and no relief. ‘I can’t believe in this country that what I consider the most basic right of them all, the right to earn a living, the right to earn a livelihood, is now being stolen,’ Portnoy said. ‘And they’re saying that they protect us. Let us protect ourselves. You’re not protecting a family that you just destroyed.’”
Liberals equate big government with generosity. The only entity that can properly take care of people is the government.
People like Bernie Sanders talk a good game, until it comes to using their own income to help others.
Despite talking about how the rich should pay their “fair share,” Sanders and his wife gave just 3.4% of their income to charitable causes. Bernie is a millionaire, so apparently capitalism isn’t that bad.
He also received a tax cut from President Trump’s tax law. However, he refused to pay more to the federal treasurer than he was required to by law. Bernie is rich — by his own definition, he should be paying more than his “fair share.”
Sanders once proclaimed that America is not a compassionate nation.
He said, “No, we are not a compassionate society. In terms of our relationship to poor and working people, our record is worse than virtually any other country on Earth. We have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major country, and half our senior older workers have nothing set aside for retirement, so I don’t think compared to other countries we are particularly compassionate.”
That is completely false. Americans give more to charity than any nation on Earth ($585 billion).
Wealthy people like Dave Portnoy are continuing the tradition of the top 1% giving back to their country. Liberals should take note.
