Have you ever heard the joke about angry Democrats walking into a Barr? Well, it’s a good one. A committee full of Democrats in the House called Attorney General William Barr (see what I did there) to testify in a hearing, and he made them look like fools. *Insert drum snare sound effect*
On Tuesday, Attorney General Barr systematically swatted the Dems’ garbage questions right back in their faces, exposing their partisan hackery, and it was glorious!
Readers of my past columns know I am a HUGE Bill Barr fan, and his Tuesday performance in front of the House Judiciary Committee made me even more of a fanboy.
Representative Jerry Nadler chairs the Committee and invited the Attorney General to testify at the hearing—except there wasn’t much “hearing” taking place by the Democrats. Instead, they spoke over Barr and rarely let him fully respond to their questions before cutting him off. They accused the Attorney General of acting like “Trump’s corrupt personal lawyer” and for trying to aid in the president’s reelection by sending federal agents to cities to enforce the law against radical Leftist hooligans.
Nadler, who earlier in the week called the Portland riots a “myth,” chastised Barr for his supposed use of federal agents to boost Trump’s reelection chances by saying “shame on you!” and then immediately redirected to “My time has expired!” He then wouldn’t allow Barr to respond before turning his speaking time over to another member of the committee.
What a coward. Nadler can dish it but he can’t take it. Typical Democrat.
Throughout the hearing, the Dems on the committee tried to paint Barr into a corner thinking that they had him licked. They pontificated and grandstanded and then tried to turn the mic over to the next member before the Attorney General could respond. When he did get the chance to speak, Barr dropped knowledge bombs on the Dems and made them look like the fools that they are, but most of them seem to have missed the point altogether.
Incredulous about the Democrats lack of concern about the violence and vandalism taking place across the country, Barr gave this epic response:
“Federal courts are under attack. Since when is it ok to try to burn down a federal court? If someone went down the street to the Prettyman Court here, that beautiful courthouse we have at the bottom of the hill and started breaking windows and firing industrial-grade fireworks in to start a fire, throw kerosene balloons in and start fires in the court, is that ok? Is that ok now? The U.S. Marshals have a duty to stop that and defend the courthouse. That is what we are doing in Portland. We are defending the courthouse. We are not looking for trouble.”
Slow clap for Bill Barr on that zinger. Although it is sad that the sitting Attorney General of the United States felt compelled to lecture members of the government about the dangers of rioting and looting.
Here is another Barr takedown during an exchange with Rep. Raskin of Maryland:
Raskin: “Are you aware that the director of the church, that the Episcopal archbishop of Washington and the presiding bishop of the Episcopal church nationally, along with the Catholic bishop of the archdioceses of Washington all denounced this police assault on the civil rights and civil liberties of the people?”
Barr: “Did they do that before or after the fire was put out?”
Barr was referring to the burning of St. Johns Church by rioters earlier in the summer.
Here are a few more of the epic burns Barr inflicted on the Dems at the hearing, as compiled by the Daily Wire:
REP. ERIC SWALWELL (D-CA): So how can you sit here and tell us, ‘why should I investigate the President of the United States’ if you’re not even aware of the facts concerning the president using the pardon or commutation power to swap asylum for the witness?
BARR: Because we require a reliable predicate before we open a criminal investigation.
[Another member interrupts]
BARR: This is a hearing. I thought I was the one that was supposed to be heard.
BARR TO CHAIRMAN JERRY NADLER: I waited for 45 [minutes], an hour for you this morning. I haven’t had lunch, I’d like to take a 5-minute break.
NADLER: Mr. Attorney General, we are almost finished. We’re going to be finished in a few minutes. We can certainly take a break, but, uh…
BARR: You’re a real class act, Mr. Chairman.
REP. MARY GAY SCANLON (D-PA): But, in fact, you have no evidence that foreign countries can successfully sway our elections with counterfeit ballots, do you?
BARR: No, I don’t. But I have common sense.
REP. DOUG COLLINS (R-GA): …[congressional] body right here would rise up if they decided to go tonight and paint the capitol building?
BARR: This body? I’m not sure.”
By my count, the final score was: Bill Barr 7, Democrats 0.
It will be a long time before the Nadler-led Dems will be stupid enough to invite the Attorney General back in front of their committee. If they do, he will slay them again. Because Bill Barr is a savage!
