The United States isn’t the only country to face infringement of civil liberties during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, American restrictions on civil liberties look tame compared to countries like Australia.

In the Land Down Under, the Aussie government has deployed the military into the streets of Sydney and Brisbane—the countries first and third most populous cities.

One would think that there must be a massive outbreak of COVID to justify such drastic action, right?

Well, think again. The Australian government is locking down and sending in the troops because a grand total of 475 cases a day are being reported…in the entire country!

And during the entire pandemic, less than 1,000 people have died. Compare that to the United States, where over 600,000 people have been killed by the virus, according to data published by Worldometer.

Sending the troops into major cities seems like a wee bit of overkill…doesn’t it?

The BBC reported the following:

“A Delta outbreak which began in June has produced nearly 3,000 infections and led to nine deaths.

Australian Defence Force soldiers will undergo training on the weekend before beginning unarmed patrols on Monday.

But many have questioned whether the military intervention is necessary, calling it heavy-handed.

The lockdown—in place until at least 28 August—bars people from leaving their homes except for essential exercise, shopping, caregiving, and other reasons.

Despite five weeks of lockdown, infections in the nation’s largest city continue to spread. Officials recorded 170 new cases on Friday.

Soldiers will join police in virus hotspots to ensure people are following the rules, which include a 10km (6.2 miles) travel limit.

State Police Minister David Elliott said it would help because a small minority of Sydneysiders thought ‘the rules didn’t apply to them.’

Information provided by health officials indicates the virus is mainly spreading through permitted movement.

The Australian Lawyers Alliance, a civil rights group, called the deployment a ‘concerning use’ of the army in a liberal democracy.”

So, the Australian government is sending the military into the streets to enforce a lockdown because there were 170 new cases in Sydney out of a population of over five million?

On what planet does that logic make any sense?!?

And during the entire pandemic, there has only been 34,000 cases reported and less than 1,000 deaths, in a population of over 25 million.

Prime Minister Tony Morrison was once thought of as a true conservative leader, but apparently, he is a fraud like England’s Boris Johnson. Both men were once thought to be fair and rational leaders, but that reputation is in tatters after they went on to enforce some of the world’s most draconian lockdowns of the entire pandemic.

Morrison’s government has also done a poor job ensuring that vaccines are being distributed, with only 17 percent of the population vaccinated.

However, even with vaccine distribution being botched so terribly, cases remain relatively low, deaths even lower.

Australia is just the latest example of a world government thwarting individual liberty in the name of safety.

It is a tale as old as time.
