With the change in the economy as a result of the pandemic, life is changing for many Americans, including moving to another county or state. America is experiencing a moving spree and it is having a BIG impact on the economy.

Approximately seven million Americans moved last year, and that number has continued to increase this year. There are a few reasons for this phenomenon. One is the new option that many workers have of permanently working remotely. In those situations, why would they stay in high-tax states California and New York and live in big cities when they can move to smaller towns and suburbs with more land and pay less in taxes?

It seems like a no-brainer if you have the option to do so, and many Americans agree.

However, that doesn’t mean the moving process is painless, because, as anyone who has ever moved out of state knows, the process is never fun.

But the pandemic has made moving even more tedious. Many Americans have hired movers to transport their things to their new homes, but this has actually led to an unexpected shortage of truck drivers in the country. Truck driver training schools have been closed during the pandemic because of the need for hands-on, in-person training, which has led to fewer graduates and fewer available drivers.

Demand for drivers has surged as the economy recovers and freight volumes have increased. So, if you or someone you know is looking for a job that pays well, recommend driving a truck.

The Wall Street Journal reported, “Nationwide, the South, especially Florida and Texas, added households, while the Northeast lost them… Big cities including New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston saw hundreds of thousands more residents move out than in, in changes they labeled permanent, causing the net loss of households from migration to widen by 71% in 2020 from the previous year. New York City saw more net moves out last year than it did during the two prior years combined.”

Where are those people moving?

Answer: The suburbs.

Liberals hate the suburbs, so it will be interesting to see how they try to destroy them. For decades, the Left has denigrated suburbanites with their white picket fences and their nice residential neighborhoods, and now they would love to centrally plan the suburbs to make them in the image of the failing cities that they’ve already run into the ground.

“Net new suburban households from migration rose 43% in 2020 from the prior year, helping swell the counties surrounding Dallas, Indianapolis, Nashville, Tenn., and Charlotte, N.C., among others, according to the Journal.

Last September, Breitbart reported that Biden’s plan “would implement an unprecedented expansion of Section 8 housing vouchers while requiring that local communities abolish strict zoning laws in order to become eligible for certain federal grants.

The plan provides a $300 million investment ‘to give states and localities the technical assistance and planning support they need to eliminate exclusionary zoning policies and other local regulations that contribute to sprawl.’

Communities unwilling to eliminate their zoning laws to allow multi-family, mixed-income housing development in their neighborhoods would be shut out of federal grants under Biden’s plan.”

But for now, at least, people are flocking to the suburbs in droves. The real question is: How long until liberals ruin the suburbs, too?

Then where will people move?
