A recent run in with American and Russian warships has may scratching their heads over how something like this could have happened.

What happened?

It depends on who you ask.

He Said, She Said

If you ask the Russians, the American ship, the USS Chancellorsville, was guilty of “dangerous” maneuvering in the Philippines Sea that brought them and the Russian vessel, Admiral Vinogradov, within 50 feet of each other…

That’s CLOSE!

50 feet is close enough to make out the color of the eyes of the guy on the other deck.

However, the US Navy said Russia’s description of the description was off…

That their explanation was nothing more than “propaganda” used to cover up the “unprofessional” actions of the Russian crew as they made their own “unsafe maneuver”.

The report said the American’s were FORCED to “reverse full and steer away to avoid a collision”.

This could have potentially been bad…

As it IS it’s not good…

The question is: why would these ships even be CLOSE to each other?

It’s not like the Philippine Sea is small! It’s not like they’re in a bathtub…

There’s no reason at all that these two ships should have been anywhere near each other – let alone within 50 feet of each other.

Somebody screwed up here…

And the blame could be laid at feet of BOTH captains – because regardless of who’s at faults – the OTHER guy was being stubborn.

You can probably see the scenario playing out…

Whoever was on the wrong course was WRONG but too stubborn to admit it and kept going…

The ship on the RIGHT course was being too stubborn to move. “I’m not moving – they should move – they’re off course.”

It was a proverbial pissing contest that almost ended with two broken ships and maybe a lot of meetings and talks between the two countries in the BEST case scenario…

The worst?

We could have seen the beginning of World War III.

Dangerous Times

You may be thinking that’s an exaggeration but wars have been started for less…

There is another scenario at play here…

This could have been one of those incidents where somebody was just trying to mess with somebody else too in a practical joke gone wrong.

That would have been tragic…

However, this may be a worrisome trend – as this isn’t the only altercation happening between American and Russian vessels lately…

As just a few days BEFORE the two warships almost collided, a Russian fighter jet tried to intercept one of the US’s spy planes in what is being called another “unsafe” maneuver.

Are things starting to ramp up between Russia and the US?

Is there something more sinister at play here?

Because if once is an accident and twice is a coincidence – what does it make the third interaction?

Is the US and Russia on a TRUE collision course? Is there something dangerous on the horizon?

We can only hope not…

For both our countries and the world.

However…

If some kind of conflict were to breakout between the US and Russia – at least conservatives won’t have to hear liberals talk about how they think Trump is Putin’s puppet anymore.

Though…

Given the choice – I’d rather deal with liberal’s idiocy than a world war.

Call me old fashioned…
