The Democrats claim that President Trump has abused the power of his office. According to their version of the narrative, his abuses are so glaring that they have no choice but to impeach him. The future of the republic depended on it!
The leader of this charge thus far has been Adam Schiff, Chairman of the Intelligence Committee. Schiff has self-righteously lectured the American people on the so-called abuses of power committed by President Trump.
Well, he should look in the mirror. Schiff is the one abusing the authority of his position.
That’s right. As we could all see from the beginning, Adam Schiff is the problem, not Trump.
And now there’s proof.
Chairman Schiff has subpoenaed and obtain private call data from Rudy Giuliani, Devin Nunes, Jay Sekulow, Lev Parnas, John Solomon, and an official at the Office of Management and Budget. All this was done in an attempt to support the failing narrative of Trump’s quid pro quo with Ukraine.
The only problem for Schiff is that that’s illegal.
Adam Schiff has no right to subpoena phone records from a telecommunication company. However, that is what he did.
Schiff subpoenaed phone records from AT&T. The company complied even though they are not required to by law. In fact, they might be liable for violating the law as well. Phone records can only be turned over to the government with the consent of the person whose records are being sought, or in certain circumstances by federal or state law enforcement.
Last time I checked, Schiff works for Congress, not law enforcement. He needed to follow the proper procedure to obtain the call records, but he very clearly did not.
Kimberley Strassel wrote an excellent piece for the Wall Street Journal outlining Schiff’s illegal activity.
In the article, she wrote, “If we’ve never had a scandal like this before, it’s in part because it is legally dubious. Federal law bars phone carriers from handing over records without an individual’s agreement. The statute makes some exceptions, including for federal and state law enforcement agencies. But NOT for LAWMAKERS.
‘There does not appear to be any basis to believe that a congressional committee is authorized to subpoena telephone records directly from a provider—as opposed to an individual,’ former Attorney General Michael Mukasey said.”
Emperor Schiff has decreed that Trump associates should have their rights violated.
Having so much power invested in a congressional committee chairman is unconstitutional. In fact, the Founders of our country were worried about people like Schiff usurping power for himself by using the levers of the federal government, which is why they put Constitutional checks in place. Except Schiff is doing just that, and no one seems to be able to stop him.
Illegal acts like this put this country on a perilous course toward tyranny. The Constitution was intended to prevent power from concentrating in a single entity. If Schiff is allowed to get away with this, someone might as well go down Constitution Avenue in Washington D.C. and shred the Constitution.
Because at that point, it is dead anyway.
The Democrats whine about President Trump’s treatment of the press. The media get their feelings hurt by mean things Trump says about them.
They need to open their eyes. Trump has taken NO actual steps to destroy the First Amendment right to a free press.
He is only guilty of removing CNN’s Jim Acosta’s press credentials, and Acosta, by all accounts, had it coming. That is not a systematic attack on the freedom of the press, it was justified because Acosta makes a fool of himself and disrespected the president and his press secretary.
You may be wondering why I bring the press into this.
The reason this is relevant is because John Solomon, one of the people who had their phone records illegally obtained by Schiff, is a reporter. Solomon has reported stories for the Hill and his own news site that don’t fit the Democrats’ narrative. He has reported extensively on the Hunter and Joe Biden corruption story, as well as the origins of the Russia probe.
Chairman Schiff illegally seized his private call information. The mainstream media should lock arms with Solomon and defend him and their profession.
So far that is not happening. There has not been a peep out of the mainstream media to defend Solomon.
Schiff is the one attacking the free press, not President Trump.
This abuse of power by Schiff should concern every American regardless of political affiliation. If a lone congressman can violate the constitutional rights of these men, imagine what they could do to the rest of us.
It is time to wake up, America!
If we don’t hold our government officials accountable, we are destined to lose the constitutional guarantees of liberty that rightfully belong to every single American.
